Cold press paper, 3 sheets will do. Please cut 3 sheets water color paper into 1/2 sheets 15 x 22 of paper which will be for our "finished" painting project. If students are interested in working with the new Fredericks watercolor canvas or trying out using water media on canvas by using the Golden Absorbent Ground ( Which I will bring with me) they are also welcome to bring or work on the new water color canvas along for the main painting project. Assorted collage papers in small sizes. Artists may pick their own collection or purchase a pre - assembled "collage paper set" from Art & Things PAINTING BOARDS : I recommend a 16 x 23 inch piece of "gator board" or any varnished ply wood board big enough to hold a quarter to a half sheet of paper. PAINTS : Winsor & Newton or any other brand of quality water colors and or Golden Fluid or other acrylic paints will work. SUGGESTED COLORS: Winsor Blue ( green shade ) also known as phthalo blue ( two names for the same type of cool blue hue + French Ultramarine Scarlet Lake ( a warm red) + Alizarin Crimson also known as Anthraquinoid Red ( a cool red) + New Gamboge Yellow ( a warm yellow)+ Hansa Yellow ( a cool yellow) . Titanium white in the Acrylics paint only In addition, artists are welcome to bring any other colors that attract them. I also enjoy using aurolean yellow and a new hue that both Winsor & Newton and Daniel Smith make called A winsor blue ( red shade)some companies call this Pthalo blue - red shade. This warmer color of blue makes incredible purples! The Iridescent and metallic colors are also beautiful to work with. 1 jar of Acrylic Medium: can be matte or glossy . Or also available is Golden Acrylics Heavy Body Medium to be used for collage techniques. I recommend any of the Golden Acrylic products. BRUSHES : To Wet the paper we will use a wide 1" flat brush. Also bring assorted sizes of "round water color brushes" I generally use sizes 8,12 &14. A CHEAP small "round " brush to apply friskit in a size 3 or 4or 6 works well. A cheap 2" wide flat brush for applying gesso. PALETTE : A white plastic palette with extra deep wells will do . I like the Robert Wood Palette. WATER CONTAINERS: Bring a one quart bottle of water with you. And 2 old jars or plastic containers for both clean water and to wash brushes in . Plus a spray bottle to spritz water and wet paper. OPTIONAL ASSORTED OTHER MATERIALS : a roll of paper towels, sponges either natural or man made, old tooth brush for splattering paint, pencils, kneaded erasers, "FRISKIT" a masking fluid used to create a resist area , I recommend either Winsor & Newton's brand of friskit or a product called "White Mask". " rubber cement friskit pick up". A Drawing type note book for collecting thoughts, making notes and sketching ideas. Plastic wrap like "glad". Small plastic bottles with needle nose applicators for pouring/squirting paints. We will also be exploring the use of Fluid acrylics by Golden , please see colors list for suggested hues. RESOURCE MATERIALS : sketches of landscape & floral photos either from magazines or personal photo images . Pictures should be simple with uncomplicated designs and patterns , such as simple floral arrangements , individual flowers or garden scenes e.t.c. Magazines photos will also be used in the collage exercises. Participants are also asked to please bring a completed painting, from home, for the final afternoon critique. A sack lunch is suggested also. All materials needed for this class are readily available through Art & Things Supplies in Morehead City
